Most burglaries are in the afternoon and via a back door or window.

They are also opportunistic, if your house looks more protected than your neighbors it will be more likely that they will be calling the police for a crime number than you.

They would need to contact their insurance company to make a claim. There could be a problem though, most insurance companies now insist that all ground floor door locks have five lever dead locks fitted to British Standard 3621.

Do your locks comply? The face of the lock should have inscribed “5 Lever, BS 3621” and have the BS kite mark.

Please check your insurance documents, they may also require you to have window locks fitted.
